The Doug and Sharon Rothwell Master of Public Administration Scholarship

History

Sharon and A. Douglas Rothwell met when they entered the UNC-CH MPA program in 1978. At the time they established this endowment, they created the largest annual scholarship in the program’s history. Doug Rothwell has served on the School of Government Foundation Board, and he and Sharon Rothwell together delivered the 2009 UNC MPA commencement address.

Early in his career, Doug Rothwell served in the cabinet of three governors and was a senior executive of two fortune 500 companies and is a former president and CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan, an organization dedicated to economic development in the state. Sharon Rothwell last served as vice president of corporate affairs for Masco Corporation, a leading manufacturer of brand-name home and building products and services. Prior to this she served as the chief of staff to Michigan Governor John Engler, director of labor relations for the state of Michigan, and state personnel director for the state of Delaware. Sharon and Doug Rothwell led the transition team for Michigan’s governor-elect Rick Snyder in 2010.

Recipient

All UNC-CH MPA students are eligible for this scholarship based on their academic background and areas of interests upon their admittance into the MPA Program.
