Doug and Sharon Rothwell Master of Public Administration Scholarship

 

History

Sharon and A. Douglas “Doug” Rothwell met when they entered the UNC-CH MPA program in 1978 and went on to have prolific careers in public service. Early in his career, Doug served in the cabinet of three governors and is a former president and CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan, an organization dedicated to economic development in the state. Sharon served as the chief of staff to Michigan Governor John Engler, director of labor relations for the state of Michigan, and state personnel director for the state of Delaware. Sharon and Doug Rothwell led the transition team for Michigan’s governor-elect Rick Snyder in 2010.

Doug Rothwell has served on the School of Government Foundation Board, and he and Sharon together delivered the 2009 UNC MPA commencement address. They established this endowment in 2005, creating the largest scholarship in the program’s history at the time.

 

Recipient

All UNC-CH MPA on-campus admitted and current students are eligible and considered for this scholarship without additional application to a high achieving student based on academic merit.
