The award supports a second-year MPA student whose passion for local government mirrors Wyatt’s own.
In his 38 year career in local government, Ed Wyatt spent 34 years as a city manager in North Carolina, including 24 years managing the City of Wilson. Through his leadership, Wilson’s population grew by 25 percent, earned an All-American City designation, and experienced an economic boom with the construction of a water supply facility and the Wilson Corporate Park.
The North Carolina Local Government Scholarship is awarded to a second-year MPA student who is a resident of the state upon admission to the program and who wants to pursue a career in local government as evidenced by work experience or a local government internship between the first and second year of the program. Priority is given to students who meet these criteria and have a parent employed by a North Carolina local government.
