A. John Vogt Scholarship

History

John Vogt joined the School in 1973 and taught in the MPA program as well budgeting, finance, and many other courses for local government officials at the School of Government. This award was created in 2006 when Vogt entered partial retirement.

Vogt has been recognized by local government finance associations including the American Society for Public Administrators and the North Carolina Local Government Budget Association as a pioneer in the field. His 2004 book, Capital Budgeting and Finance: A Guide for Local Governments, is considered the definitive work on the subject nationwide. In 2013, he was presented with the Donald Hayman Distinguished Public Service Award in honor of his service to MPA students and North Carolina local government officials.

All students are eligible for this scholarship based on their academic background and areas of interests upon their admittance into the MPA Program. However, preference is given to those students with an interest in public finance.
