History

Flo Miller Leader in Public Service Diversity Scholarship

This scholarship honors Florentine “Flo” Miller’s career and commitment to local government, public service, and the UNC MPA program. A native of Kinston, NC, Flo’s career in local government spanned four decades, including 31 years with the Town of Chapel Hill. She retired as deputy manager from the town in 2021.

In addition to being a link between the Town of Chapel Hill and the University, Flo was committed to supporting the UNC MPA program and its students. For more than a decade she served on the UNC MPA admissions committee and, for students completing their Professional Work Experience with the Town of Chapel Hill, she challenged students to explore all facets of local government and served as a mentor to many during their internships and well after.
